Oshana Regional Governor Hofni Iipinge said the region must not return unspent funds to Treasury because of poor planning, lack of coordination, or negligence.

Iipinge said if an entity fails to implement budgeted activities, it affects the entire region and ultimately the residents.

Iipinge made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing a stakeholder engagement in Oshakati.

“Therefore, I expect each of you to plan ahead, work closely with your head offices, expedite procurement processes, and remove internal bottlenecks that delay project execution,” he said.

Iipinge said all regional heads are now required to submit quarterly progress reports to the governor’s office, which will compile and monitor the data to track implementation progress and inform both regional and national engagements.

“This engagement is not ceremonial colleagues , it is the beginning of a structured mechanism of performance tracking, I will not hesitate to engage relevant offices and ministries should any institution be found to be consistently failing to deliver on its mandate in this region. Let it be known that Oshana will no longer be the region where budgets are underutilised, or where implementation is perennially delayed,” said Iipinge.
