One of the inmates who escaped from Ngoma Police station on Sunday evening was rearrested on Monday morning.

According to Head of Community Policing in the Zambezi Region Chief Inspector Kisco Sitali, the 23-year-old Namibian suspect, Mubita Monga, was injured while jumping from the roof. Monga was found hiding in a nearby village close to the police station.

“He appears to be swollen, and we suspect he has a dislocated knee. He did not go far and was found hiding in a nearby village,” said Sitali.

The arrest comes after seven suspects escaped from custody between 21h00 and 22h00 by cutting through the roof.

The escapees arrested for various cases include five Zambians and one Angolan national.

Sitali added that police officers are on the ground and following footprints of the remaining six escapees.

“According to members on the ground, the footprints are leading to areas of Nakabolelwa, Kasika, and Mbalasinte. We suspect they might be heading toward Impalila (Island) coming up to Luhonono,” said Sitali stated. He urged residents in those areas to be on alert.

The escapees have been identified as 20-year-old Sinyinda Mulyokela, 27-year-old Angolan national Francisco Xiaver, Yambwa Chester (34), Lisho James (35), Mwiya Vincent (38), and 53-year-old Sililo Nyambe.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts should contact Deputy Commissioner Nehemia, Senior Inspector Shifura, or report to the nearest police station.
