Kavango West man arrested for girl’s murder

A 57-year-old man who fled for allegedly striking a four-year-old girl with a spade, killing her instantly was arrested on Monday.

The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance at the Rundu Magistrate’s Court this week.

According to the police, the suspect fled immediately after the incident, which happened at 18h00 on Sunday at Kahoro village, Kavango West Region.

The man allegedly struck Martha Hamunyela with a spade while she was playing with other children at his homestead.

Police allege that the suspect was trying to chase the victim and her friends, who where playing at the suspect’s house, when he injured the victim.

Police head of community policing chief inspector Raimbert Muronga confirmed the suspect arrest.

Muronga said the suspect was tracked by following footprints and was found hiding in the bushes at Namuntuntu, a nearby village .
