The Namibian Cyber Security Incident Response Team (NamCSIRT) has raised alarm over a growing wave of global cyber threats linked to “stealer logs,” a form of malware that secretly extracts sensitive information such as passwords, banking details, and corporate data.
According to NamCSIRT, more than 4.3 million devices worldwide were compromised last year, leading to the theft of over 330 million credentials. These stolen credentials have since been exploited in large-scale ransomware attacks, causing severe financial and reputational damage to victims.
A member of the NamCSIRT team said that there is an urgent need for stronger cyber hygiene in Namibia. Recommended measures include enabling multi-factor authentication, keeping systems regularly updated, and using early detection tools to identify suspicious activity before it escalates.
