A Zambian inmate allegedly escaped through a window at Katima Mulilo hospital on Monday.

Zambezi Region head of community policing sub-division chief inspector Kisco Sitali, said the inmate, Mabuta Oliver Kutwanga, had been detained as an illegal immigrant on 13th August this year, at Katima Mulilo police station but fell ill.

Sitali explained that Kutwanga was subsequently admitted to Katima Mulilo hospital. He added that on Monday morning, Kutwanga asked the police officer, guarding him to use the toilet, and he was escorted.

“The police officer remained at the door while the inmate went alone in the toilet but when he saw the inmate was taking too long, he went to open the door, only to realise that no one was in the toilet and observed the window was wide open,” said Sitali
