Namibia police search for missing Swiss tourist

An extensive search has been launched since Sunday for 83-year-old Swiss national Alois Ottiger, who has been missing since Sunday after leaving his room at Desert Hills Lodge wearing white cloths in the Sesriem area and failing to return. A 51-year-old woman from Walvis Bay was defrauded of N$ 777,568.23 by a suspect who posed as a Bank Windhoek representative and obtained her confidential banking details. The incident occurred on Monday, 10 March 2025, between 14:58 and 16:00 via internet banking. A 21-year-old Angolan man was arrested in Olumbongo, Oniipa, after allegedly raping a 30-year-old Namibian woman in the early hours of Saturday. According to police reports, the suspect and victim were together at a drinking place before the incident occurred.
