Volans-1X Well Yields New Hydrocarbon Find

The Volans-1X well in the Orange Basin produced the National Petroleum Corporation’s third hydrocarbon discovery, uncovering 26 metres of rich gas-condensate reservoirs. The find, made alongside partners Rhino Resources, Azule Energy, and Korres Investments, follows earlier discoveries at Sagittarius-1X and Capricornus-1X, says Paulo Coelho, Manager of Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations at NamCOR.

BW Energy, NAMCOR Secure Rig for Kudu Gas Drilling

BW Energy and NAMCOR E&P have secured the Deepsea Mira rig to drill the Kharas appraisal well on the Kudu licence in the Orange Basin. Scheduled for the second half of 2025, the drilling is part of a rig-sharing arrangement designed to boost local content. NAMCOR spokesperson Paulo Coelho said the move is a vital step toward developing the Kudu gas field and improving the country’s energy independence.

NAMCOR Completes Drilling of Sagittarius-1X Well

The National Petroleum Corporation and its partners have completed drilling the Sagittarius-1X exploration well in Block 2914 of the Orange Basin. NAMCOR’s Manager of Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations, Paulo Coelho: indicates that drilling began on 18 December 2024 using the Noble Venturer drillship and reached total depth on 6 February 2025.
