Japan and US to upgrade military pact

The US and Japan are expected to announce a major security pact update when leaders from the two countries meet in Washington next month, according to the Financial Times. Reports expect it to be the biggest security upgrade in 60 years as both countries look to counter China’s military positioning in the region. Chris Gilbert reports from Tokyo.

South Korea and the US are conducting a joint river crossing exercise to improve their cooperation when infrastructure becomes damaged during conflict. The annual 14 day drills come as North Korea launched at least three ballistic missiles on Monday. Chris Gilbert reports.

Artists boycott South by Southwest over Gaza

A group of artists who were scheduled to perform at South by Southwest festival in the US state of Texas say they are boycotting it in solidarity with Palestine. The musicians are refusing to perform in protest of the festival's inclusion of defence industry contractors and a US Army sponsorship. Sally Patterson reports from Austin, Texas.

Harris and Gantz due to discuss Gaza ceasefire in Washington

The Vice President of the United States is due to meet with a member of Israel's war cabinet in Washington to discuss how to get humanitarian aid into Gaza. Kamala Harris and Benny Gantz are also expected to talk about the need for a temporary ceasefire. According to Gantz's office he will also meet US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. Our US correspondent Jagruti Dave has more.

Odysseus lander to be ‘put to sleep’

The team behind the Odysseus spacecraft says their mission has 'changed the economics of landing on the moon'. Speaking on Wednesday, representatives of Intuitive Machines said the lander will be "put to sleep" before being powered up again in the next two to three weeks. Last week it became the first privately developed spacecraft to soft land on the lunar surface. Sally Patterson has more.

Texas judge to decide on migrant arrest law

At a court hearing in Texas a judge seemed skeptical of a new law that would give the state power to arrest anyone suspected of entering Texas illegally. Campaigners in Texas are trying to block the bill before it comes into effect next month. Nick Harper reports from Austin.
