Democrats take back US lawmaker George Santos’ seat

Democrat Tom Suozzi has won a special election to replace disgraced US lawmaker George Santos in New York. The Republican Representative was expelled from Congress in December after being charged with fraud, money laundering, and lying to lawmakers. The race was viewed by many as an early test for November's general election, with immigration, the economy and abortion coming out as key issues for voters. Sally Patterson has more.

American Palestinian man stabbed as US hate crimes soar

The stabbing of a Palestinian American man in the US state of Texas was a hate crime, according to police. A 36-year-old man, Bert James Baker was arrested following an alleged attack on a Muslim victim over the weekend. It comes amid a surge in hate crimes targeting Arabs, Muslims and Jews, linked to the war in Gaza. Sally Patterson reports.

US Republicans block border and aid deal

US lawmakers have voted down legislation that would bring in new border restrictions and give aid to Ukraine and Israel. Senate Republicans blocked the bipartisan border deal and foreign aid package, by 50 votes to 49.Now, Democrats are trying to pass a revised bill which strips out the immigration measures and only includes aid. Blinken wraps up day two of Mideast crisis tour

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to visit Israel and the West Bank on Wednesday, as the war in Gaza moves into its fourth month. The trip comes as there's quiet optimism a deal to end the fighting may be achieved, which could also see the release of Israeli captives being held in the strip.
