Electoral Commission launches nationwide voter education campaign

today25 June, 2025

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has initiated a comprehensive voter education campaign aimed at informing citizens about the upcoming regional and local authority elections scheduled for November 2025. The campaign focuses on voter registration processes, voting procedures, and encourages active participation from young and first-time voters.

ECN spokesperson, De Wet Siluka, emphasized the importance of civic engagement, stating, “Our goal is to ensure that every eligible Namibian is informed and motivated to participate in the electoral process.”

He highlighted that the commission has established registration points at various educational institutions, including universities and colleges, to facilitate easy access for young voters. Despite these efforts, earlier reports indicated a lower-than-expected turnout among young registrants during the 2024 General Registration of Voters, with only 118,697 young people registered out of 366,036 total registrations.

To address this, the ECN has appointed youth ambassadors and collaborated with civil society organizations to enhance outreach and awareness. The campaign utilizes various platforms, including social media, community events, and educational materials, to reach a broad audience.
