Worrying UN report predicts increase in starvation across the world

  A new United Nations report indicates catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity bordering on starvation in five countries around the world. The World Food Programme together with the Food and Agriculture Organization released its findings on Thursday, with Gaza, Sudan and Haiti topping the list of countries it predicts people will starve to death. UN concerned about food supplies in Northern Gaza

According to a release by the WFP, while N$17.57 million has already been secured, it still requires 93% of the total N$228 million to fully implement the program and alleviate the escalating hunger crisis. According to the World Food Programme global hunger index, 24 percent of Namibian children under the age of 5 are stunted, and 6 percent are experiencing wasting. Between January and June 2024, over 190,000 (191,353) children were screened for malnutrition, with 10,151 receiving treatment.
